Dan is a specialist in cataract and oculoplastic surgery with an international reputation and 20 years of experience.
Top of his year at St Andrews
Born and bred in Shropshire, Dan graduated with First Class Honours from the University of St Andrews, continued his general clinical training in Manchester where he qualified in 1999.
Keeler Scholarship to Vancouver
He started his Ophthalmology training in Scotland, continued in Newcastle and finished with an oculoplastic and orbital fellowship in the world-famous Vancouver Eye Care Center under Peter Dolman and Jack Rootman. He is certified by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and has full GMC sub-specialty registration and revalidation.
Leading the way in sustainable healthcare
Dan has a strong research, teaching and leadership portfolio with over 60 peer-reviewed publications and a sought-after surgical Fellowship in Cardiff where he works at the University Hospital of Wales. He is keen to see ophthalmology become more sustainable and is collaborating internationally to make this happen.
Sports medicine, altitude physiology and global health
Dan is passionate about world blindness, setting up a trachoma project in Kenya and is trustee of a local community link with Tororo in Uganda. He is a world authority on the effects of high altitude on the eye and has been on many Himalayan expeditions. He is on the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine Council and is the match ophthalmologist for the Welsh Rugby Union.
